Attention students! This is your estudy guide. Here you will find activities discussed in class that will help you prepare for your test

Objective: You will be able to understand the importance of correctly spelling words as it relates to both informal and academic language.
Introduction: I will split the class into groups of three. I will provide each group with scrabble pieces A-Z. Students must take those scrabble pieces and spell out as many vocabulary words from the text as they can.
Model: I will demonstrate to the class effective techniques for spelling. Students will learn the importance of phonemes (sounding out words) to help them spell out words correctly. I will practice sounding out different words with the class and spell them on the board as we go along.
Guided Practice: I will give each group a list of words from the reading assignment. The words will be spelled incorrectly. You must determine the correct spelling of the word.
Independent Practice: For homework students will make a word search with vocabulary words from the text. They will bring this word search back to class and trade with their classmates for them to complete.
Assessment: I will read aloud a list of vocabulary words from the text. The students must spell out the words as I read them.

Newsletter Reflection
I enjoyed creating this newsletter. It made me aware of how we, as teachers, should build familiarity and trust with the parents of your students. I believe that creating the newsletter is relevant and very important. By creating the newsletter, you keep the parents informed of what their child is learning in the classroom. Furthermore, you make them aware of the techniques that you will be using to effectively teach your lesson. Also, it can be comforting for parents of LEP students to know that there are accommodations being made to help meet the needs of their child due to the language barrier. It is important that teachers keep that line of communication open with parents and make them aware that you are available and accessible when needed.

Dear Parents,
This week in class we are going to be reading the short story titled Invisible Alligators. We will be doing many different activities related to this story. Some of those activities are: compare the character in the story to yourself. Also, create your own comic with several characters from the story; and many activities that help build their knowledge of complex words.
Assessments
Students will be tested on how to breakdown different words learned in class. They will also need to determine the meaning of the given word/s. In some cases they will need to give the meaning of the word in their own words.

Enrichment Activities
For homework, your child will receive several graphic organizers. Your child is to follow the direction given on the worksheet for each graphic organizer and have it ready for the next day of class.
Providing the Best
This week is going to be very exciting and busy for your child. These lessons will improve his/her informal and academic language. We have many group activities, demonstrations, and pictures that will be used to help accommodate LEP students. If you have any questions for me my contact information is listed below.
