Introduction: I will split the class into groups of three. I will provide each group with scrabble pieces A-Z. Students must take those scrabble pieces and spell out as many vocabulary words from the text as they can.
Model: I will demonstrate to the class effective techniques for spelling. Students will learn the importance of phonemes (sounding out words) to help them spell out words correctly. I will practice sounding out different words with the class and spell them on the board as we go along.
Guided Practice: I will give each group a list of words from the reading assignment. The words will be spelled incorrectly. You must determine the correct spelling of the word.
Independent Practice: For homework students will make a word search with vocabulary words from the text. They will bring this word search back to class and trade with their classmates for them to complete.
