Model: The teacher will pull three vocabulary words from the story Invisible Alligators and write them on the board. The teacher will break down the terms that have morphemes and show the class how to define it’s meaning.

Guided Practice: Students will be broken up into seven groups of three. Each student in the group will have their own vocabulary word from the story read in class. The student must break down the morphemic word and determine its meaning. Also, students must have three sentences (a sentence for each word in the group) and be ready to share with the class at the end of 5 minutes. It is ok if some students have the same term as students in other groups.

Independent Practice: you must create your own short story using at least 5 morphemic terms. At the end of 10 minutes we will read these short stories aloud in class and you will write the morphemes other students used and determine it’s meaning.

Assessment: Students will be given a list of 12 vocabulary words. You will have to determine which words are morphemes and which words are normal. You must also match the term to it’s definition.
